Purpose of collection of personal information
Personal information will not be collected by NetRatings unless information is required for a lawful purpose connected with a function or activity and collection of the information is necessary for that scenario.

Source of personal information
When required, NetRatings will only collect information directly from the individual and will not rely on material provided by a third-party.

Compliance, however, will not be necessary if NetRatings believes on reasonable grounds that the information is publicly available, authorisation for a third party to collect the information has been given, information will not be used in a form which identifies the individual concerned or data will be used for statistical or research purposes and not published in a manner that would identify the individual concerned.

Collection of information from subject
NetRatings will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the individual concerned is aware of the fact that the information is being collected, the purpose for which the information is required and the intended recipients of the information.

Manner of collection of personal information
No information will be collected unlawfully by NetRatings or under circumstances that are unfair or intrude to an unreasonable extent upon the personal affairs of the individual concerned.

Storage and security of personal information
NetRatings will take all precautions to ensure that information is protected against loss, access, use, modification or disclosure (except with the authority of the agency that holds the information) and any other misuse.

Access to personal information
Under various circumstances, NetRatings may be authorised or required by other legislation to collect, use, retain or make available personal information. In such a case where the organisation acts in accordance with such legislation, this will not amount to a breach of the Privacy Act (Section 7 of the Privacy Act).

Correction of personal information
NetRatings is entitled to authorise for the correction of any personal information to ensure that it is accurate, up-to-date, finalised and not misleading. Steps will also be taken to correct information that is requested by the individual concerned.

Personal information will not be retained for longer than necessary
NetRatings will not keep information for longer than is required for the purposes for which the information may lawfully be used.
